START! MELT! SPOT

21 Feb

I’m trying to narrow down my choice of festivals this year. Not easy, not easy.

The 3 in the headline are al ready on the list, and I just stumbled across the resemblance in the names and the common use of !!!!

Also known as the :

CAN YOU SENSE HOW INSANELY AWESOME THIS IS GOING TO BE EXCLAMATION MARKS!!!” ; )

The SPOT! festival is in Denmark, in a town called Århus and takes pride in giving you the some of the best Danish acts, that you haven’t heard (a lot) about yet and some really cool foreign names as well. There’s not a lot on the programme yet, but you can check it out at the SPOT website. Besides being quite cheap, this is an insanely cosy festival with an audience mixed of music-interested/music-industry/music-geeky 25-50 year olds.

START! festival is a local Copenhagen festival, also showing a lot of new talent. It’s basically in my backyard, so I find it impossible not to go! Earlier they’ve had some calendar issues, because every Copenhagen event insisted on using the same exact weekend! – leading to somewhat poorly interest in all of the events. But this year START! has the weekend of 16.-18. og June all to themselves (in my calendar, anyways) so it should be exciting to join them!

The festival takes place in the old meatpacking district at Vesterbro in Copenhagen, and it has a cosy, yet raw, feel to it. And a lot of their “this is gunna be huge!” were right on. Actually most of the new-ish acts, that I saw at START! back in 2009, have really hit the radio stations/festivals/tv-stations masses this year. For instance the adorable disco-dancy-perfect-company of Vinnie Who and also another interesting Danish act called Kings of dark disco.
This years program is yet to be revealed, but you can check out the earlier years at the START! website and make sure to flag the dates in your calendar.

And now for the final “OMG!! THIS IS GOING TO BE SO FREAKIN AWWWEEEEESOME!!!” exclamation mark : the MELT! festival.

Although based in Germany, I’ve never been there nor heard of this extravaganza up until the summer of 2010 where I went to Sonar (no exclamation mark) in Barcelona, and met lovely new friend Cris, who introduced me to a ton of nice new friends, and also : MELT! Focusing mainly on electro and electro rock, this must be my kind of heaven on earth! Seriously … look at this trailer, how can I not go ? ; )

MELT! Festival 2011 Trailer #2 from Melt! Festival on Vimeo.

For more on MELT! go check out their website The program is nowhere near complete yet, but already now MELT! 2011 includes exciting acts as : Modeselektor, Paul Kalkbrenner, Pulp, Robyn, Sbtrkt, Ellen Allien, Junip, White Lies, Cut Copy and Junior Boys! Cool. Check out the rest of the line-up here. Looks goooooood!

So, 3 festivals are settled up until now. I’m thinking … 4 more to come. Maybe 5. Uh, actually it’s 6 including the Reeperbahn festival in september … I’m pretty sure I need to get some more jobs to make this happen ; )

Yai!

Lovely, lovely Glasser!

9 Feb

Glasser is the stage name of L.A. musician, Cameron Mesirow. I found her debut album “Ring” at the Rough Trade shop at Brick Lane market in London in october last year, and ever since then I’ve been completely smitten.

Her album really took to my liking and it was with me a lot of the time while I was travelling ’round Europe. Maybe I have an extra dimension to her music, because of all the memories? but I reeeeeeeally like it!

Listen to the first track on the album: “Apply”.

Maybe you already know her and love her to?
If you saw some of the picture movies I made along the trip, you’ll probably remember her sound to. For instance the one from the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris, that I’m still totally in love with.
The track here is called, T. (Make sure to pass the cemetery if you’re in the eastern part of Paris at some point. HUGE experience!)

Anyways! Glasser has my best of recommendations and you should really get moving and spend a little money on this brilliant piece of work! Being a big fan of the Fever Ray project, I wasn’t at all surprised to read that two of the Fever Ray producers Van Rivers & The Subliminal Kid (alongside producer Ariel Rechtshaid) were also involved in the making of “Ring”. An album that doesn’t have an ending nor a start, and therefore goes on and on for ever and ever in a never ending loop …

Or, at least it could :)

Also, you might wanna check out this loooooovely remix that Jamie XX did last year. “Tremel” in it self is a really nice track, but Jamie XX added some more bass, changed the tempo a few places and in my opinion, really made a perfect remix! (Kinda makes you feel like it’s already Friday night!)

Live at Lille Vega
This Sunday Glasser finally came to Copenhagen and I went to see the concert with some good friends. Yai!
It totally met my expectations – and then some.

Really an amazing concert where everything just fits together and where sound, light, costumes and the intensity of the music just makes everything flow towards you, grab you and gently suck you into all the wonders.

Ahhh … A perfect way to end a weekend and begin a new week!

For more on Glasser go here and make sure to treat yourself to her album. It’s available at iTunes store. Really easy. I’m totally convinced that you deserve it …
It’s Wednesday!

STRØØØØØM !!

19 Aug

The STRØM festival is an annual Copenhagen based festival showing the best of upcoming (and established) electronic music. A great time of year for me! (STRØM translates into power, electrical power – ish ;)

The festival opens with a 2 hour Metro Ride, with 4 different DJ’s at the deck. It’s warm, sweaty, loud, bouncy and a hell of a lot of fun! I tried to get a bit of the atmosphere on camera …

Welcome to The TransMetroExpress 2010!!

Check out the full line up at the STRØM website. Luckily a lot of the shows are completely free of charge. I love sponsors!!

Bits of Sonar 2010

19 Jul

This year I’ve enjoyed a ton of great live concerts, and luckily I have a lot more to come! (I’ll be sure to post them here as I go along)

One of really cool experiences this far was the Sonar festival in Barcelona!

Here’s a couple of somewhat interesting photos along side a video from a previous live show with German duo, Booka Shade. Should you get the chance, make sure to catch one of their live shows! They really know how to make live-concerts in front of huge crowds, seem almost magical!

Make sure to buy Booka Shade “Body language” album. My favourite right now.

True

Summer, music, good friends and fake grass. I need nothing more.

I love this guy. Off course you need your killer-oversize bag for the festival! ; )

Woops! Maybe he actually did need his oversize-killer-bag?? Just in case he had to run straight towards the nearest changing room to hook up with his suit?? Sorry. My bad.

Lovely bride

Lovely shoes

Really bad British footwear ...

Sonar By Night - obviously involves bumper cars : )

Late at night, and under the influence of quite a deal of alchohol, I'm a killer-ass-photographer!

3 days of wonderfull music memories, right there on my frigde.

The Sonar festival 2011 – 16 th. 17 th and 18 th of June.
Read all about it, right
